Paolo Schiavon: The Journey of an Abstract Artist

  • January 22, 2026

Paolo Schiavon is an abstract painter living in Padua, Italy. He uses acrylics, earth tones, oxides, and various supports, including reclaimed wood. His instinctive and gestural works employ techniques with brushes, spatulas, sponges, and sometimes bare hands.

As a young person, he never had a strong relationship with artistic drawing and preferred more technical subjects. He began painting almost by chance, thanks to a gift, and immediately discovered a marvelous world. He developed a passion and felt an almost immediate attraction to abstract art.

“Giocolando” exemplifies Schiavon’s mastery in combining different media to create a richly textured surface. The interplay of acrylic and oil pastels results in a dynamic composition where colors dance across the canvas, evoking a sense of playful curiosity. The painting features a striking contrast of soft and bold colors, intertwined with both fluid and geometric forms. The textured background adds depth, allowing the vibrant shapes to appear as though they are in movement, encapsulating the viewer in a rhythmic visual experience.

The title “Giocolando” reminiscent of the Italian word for play, suggests a whimsical exploration of form and color. Schiavon invites viewers to engage with the artwork by interpreting its playful nature, making each interaction a unique personal dialogue.

“Virgin Wall” showcases Schiavon’s innovative use of mixed media, merging acrylic, oil pastels, and ink to create a vibrant dialogue on canvas. The combination of these materials allows for a unique interplay of texture and color, resulting in a striking visual experience.
The artwork presents a harmonious balance between fluid lines and abstract shapes, including a sweeping turquoise line that guides the viewer’s eye through the composition. The earthy background evokes a sense of grounding, while splashes of color and spontaneous markings inject energy and movement into the piece.

The title “Virgin Wall” suggests a notion of purity and potential, reflecting Schiavon’s contemplative approach to his work. It captures the essence of a blank canvas transformed into an emotional landscape, rich with nuance and meaning. The work inspires viewers to reflect upon their own perceptions and interpretations.

GO TO ARTIST’S PROFILE

Deeply influenced by the Italian abstract art movement, Schiavon’s research delves into the relationship between structure and spontaneity. His paintings challenge traditional boundaries, inviting viewers to interpret and find personal meaning within the abstract shapes and vivid hues.

His paintings convey tranquility, introspection, and emotions, like a silent dialogue with the observer. For Paolo, painting is about discovering and giving shape to his emotions. His paintings always carry a message. His artistic journey intricately weaves emotion with form, creating a visceral connection between color and the viewer.
