Emily Roan
Statement
Emily Roan, a visual artist whose practice transcends traditional abstraction through the exploration of paradox, metamorphosis, and ancestral storytelling. Roan’s work offers a unique dialogue between the tangible and the unseen, forging a bridge between opposites such as chaos and pattern, time and infinity, and spirit and matter. Roan’s multifaceted body of work ranges from large scale paintings and three-dimensional installations which incorporate natural, reflective, and found objects. Her practice transforms raw canvases into immersive energy fields using bold, layered techniques that discuss the relationships between human perception and the ethereal. Her work is a catalyst that connects abstract symbolism and storytelling with contemporary visual narratives.
Emily Roan received her BA in Fine Arts with a concentration in Drawing, along with studies in philosophy, from Colorado State University in 2015. Roan comes from a diverse family of Italian American/ Native American storytellers and artists. Incorporating travel and cultural perspectives are essential for her practice. Emily Roan’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, in solo and group shows. For the last 10 years, she has actively contributed to the Denver art community by collaborating on events with non-profits, curating exhibitions, and earning an Award of Excellence at 40 West Arts.
