Shay Parsons
Statement
My work spans the space between painting and photography, using the camera more as a paintbrush than a simple recording device. I start with a detail which catches my eye, often from an overlooked corner, and craft it into something unique and evocative.
Images are layered and combined until I’ve found the feeling I want. Each finished piece is from a voyage of discovery which can take many turns and disappear down unusual alleyways. I’ve been taking pictures in one form or another for years, leading me to this way of expressing what I see in my mind rather than through the viewfinder. The results are original abstract expressionist pieces; exclusively my voice.
