Marascaud
Vybrat, 1988
My work is rooted in storytelling and the exploration of interpersonal relationships. I am interested in moments of emotional tension, intimacy, and quiet conflict—situations that often unfold between people without being explicitly articulated. Rather than depicting clear narratives, I construct fragments of stories that invite the viewer to complete them through their own experience.
I primarily work with watercolour and ink, media that allow for immediacy, vulnerability, and a balance between control and chance. I also use acrylic paint, which enables me to build stronger contrasts and layered structures. Gesture, repetition, and rhythm play a central role in my process, reflecting the cyclical nature of human interactions.
My visual language oscillates between figuration and suggestion. I am drawn to ambiguity—what remains unsaid, unfinished, or only partially visible. Through painting, I seek to create spaces where personal memories, shared emotions, and fictional narratives intersect.

Bio
My artistic practice began to take a clear direction in 2016, following an unexpected intervention at a prestigious Prague art fair. One of my paintings—created directly on a wall using decorative rollers—was discreetly installed overnight using guitar pedalboard Velcro straps. As the work could not be presented under my real name, I adopted the pseudonym marascaud, inspired by a character from Hercule Poirot known for stealing paintings.
While no artworks were stolen that night, one was quietly added. The painting was later sold, and I have continued working under the name marascaud ever since.
I primarily work with watercolour and ink, as well as acrylic painting. My practice focuses on interpersonal relationships and storytelling, exploring emotional tension, intimacy, and unspoken narratives through gesture, repetition, and subtle figurative language.
